Has anyone used baby aspirin before long runs or the marathon to counter the soreness before it onsets? I have been doing some reading - and it definitely says to stay away from the NSAID tablets. I was wondering what some of the readers on this board have experienced with baby aspirin.

81mg of aspirin is meant more for daily anticoagulant therapy than for pain control.

Hmm. So you're saying you read Asprin is bad for marathon day? I have not heard of that one. I will tell you in the past Marathons I have taken asprin (regular) before and during the marathon. When I was training for the marathon I would take them as well. I will do some reading on that topic. I hope I am not doing myself more hurt than help. If it makes any difference the asprin were a big HELP as far as pain goes. I mean, I was still in pain ,but not as much as I would have been had I not t aken the asprin.
I wish you the best of luck! You will do great on race day. Is this your first marathon?

I've tried taking a baby asprin before a run and a bit of stomach burn ensued. I typically run drug free and take a couple of ibuprofen immediately after eating fruit or a bagel at the finish. I've found that it really helps with the recovery and the inevitable muscle inflamation. :)
