I might have a solution for ipod users so you can have your cake and eat it too. I too like to run with my ipod but try to be courteous to my fellow runners (that is how I see it...we are in it together). I also like to hear the crowd and the entertainment provided. In order to make all that happen: be courteous, enjoy the crowd, and have my ipod I simply wrap my ear buds around the strap of my tank top and place the volume at a level where I can hear but it won't bother runners around me. It's like having little speakers on my shoulder. I've tested it with friends on long runs and they say they can't hear it, so it works for me. Maybe it will work for you. Where is the camaraderie? :? I've made it to Boston and I am never bothered by slower runners. They are out there sweatin it and pushing themselves too. My only qualm is their position on the start line. I do agree with you there.

Well what a race. Every year I enjoy the race a little bit more and more - and I do it with my IPOD...again and again. I started out with the intention of not using it, giving my husband the head phones. There were so many headphones though, I got nervous without my security blanket. So I took them, turning my music off and on when I needed it, off when I was in a big group, and to talk to others. I also turned it off when there was entertainment.

I did run into another person - however it wasn't due to my ipod. I wish I could tell her i was sorry again, she was just in my blind spot. I understand the Little Rock marathon has to say no ipods due to insurance (someone told me that at the starting line). I don't know if it's accurate.

Again - I was glad to see people of all paces out there with and without their ipods. It was a great race.
