I laugh at those who say we can't hear instructions if we've got our IPods in our ears. Heck, when was the last time, really, that you heard the instrutions at ANY race? I'll never be on the front row where you can hear 'em.
That comment is just wrong... You should pay attention to all pre-race instructions... if it's a big race like LRM, read them ahead of time, but whatever you do, please pay attention to them!!
Paul, you misunderstood. We stand there in the middle of the pack before the race -- especially a "big" race -- and can't hear or understand a thing! What we hear is "blah blah blah" over some static from improperly installed speaker systems.
Those of us in the pack could even consider it an insult that no one seems to care to be sure we understand what is being said.
Very valid points RM... I've been there and done that, and I can see where you would feel that way.
I'm glad the numbers of runners/walkers is increasing, and give kudos to LRM for being a race that goes outta the way to welcome all runners/walkers.
I think the problem is inexperience with racing and race etiquette... and we should all help out with that.
All of us... whether we are front-of-the-pack, mid-pack, or back-of-the-pack should work with each other to make it a better experience. Heck all of us are out there for some goal or another... and hopefully we can respect each of those goals.
I think some times, some one out of position getting yelled at by others, may feel like they are getting yelled at because they are slow and don't deserve to be out there, and that's not the case.
