I might have a solution for ipod users so you can have your cake and eat it too. I too like to run with my ipod but try to be courteous to my fellow runners (that is how I see it...we are in it together). I also like to hear the crowd and the entertainment provided. In order to make all that happen: be courteous, enjoy the crowd, and have my ipod I simply wrap my ear buds around the strap of my tank top and place the volume at a level where I can hear but it won't bother runners around me. It's like having little speakers on my shoulder. I've tested it with friends on long runs and they say they can't hear it, so it works for me. Maybe it will work for you. Where is the camaraderie?

I've made it to Boston and I am never bothered by slower runners. They are out there sweatin it and pushing themselves too. My only qualm is their position on the start line. I do agree with you there.
