Obtaining
correct finish line results requires coordination among registration,
finish line and results processing. This is best accomplished when
the following rules are enforced.
Coordinate specific
race rules with registration personnel.
Registration must
understand any special requirements of the race such as divisions, bib
number assignments and required registration data and its transmission
to data entry personnel.
Rock solid communication is necessary between all members of the
registration and results team.
Clearly define
responsibilities for finish line personnel.
Account for and time
all runners.
All runners crossing the finish line must be timed -- with or
without bibs, registered runner or bandit.
Get runners into proper chutes.
Position at least one individual in front of chutes to properly
guide runners to the correct chute.
Keep runners in finish order in chute.
Forcefully keep the runners in order while in the chute and keep
them moving.
Identify bandits.
Spindle managers must keep clearly marked dummy bib tear away tags
for bandits and/or legitimately registered runners who do not have their
bib.
Keep bibs in order.
Bib tear away tags must be kept in exact order received and placed
on clearly differentiated and well marked spindles.
Spindle management.
Placement of the bib tear away tags on spindles in a consistent,
face down manner is important to the later scanning process.
